Branch Events

Easter Venture

Easter Venture is a major activity of the S.A. Venturer Branch. It is a team oriented hike with many challenges and theme activities en-route.

The aim of Easter Venture is to provide opportunities for Venturers to test their training, fitness and skills [hiking, navigation, camping, initiative...] with teams from other Units as well as having a great time.
Rover crews provide excellent activities based on the theme for the particular year.

Easter Venture is a lot of fun - hiking with your Unit friends, completing the many challenges, watching movies at night...
Easter Venture relies heavily on the training of Venturers in Venturing Skills which is the ongoing responsibility of the Unit Council and Leaders.

Initiative Activities

Initiative Activities are held two times each year [usually in May and August]. Venturers carry their packs and navigate from activity to activity during a hike of about 8-10km which includes an overnight camp.
The activities include a first aid incident, navigation exercise, construction/pioneering, cooking a meal on fires or stoves and other initiative challenges.

Venturers are assessed individually on these challenges and must reach a certain standard.
The Unit Council and Venturer Leaders are responsible that the Venturers participating in Venturer Initiative Activities have received training in the skills to be assessed.
The activities are a lot of fun besides being an important part of a Venturer's Queen’s Scout Award.
Venturer Initiative Activities are for all Venturers, not just those progressing towards the Queen's Scout Award, and are usually attended during the first 18 months of joining a Venturer Unit.

Super Splash

This activity is held on the first weekend in December each year and has been held at places like Barmera, Roonka and Milang.
This is the end of year break-up activity for the best section in the Association - THE VENTURER SECTION!

We aim to have you so relaxed, so laid back and so chilled that your folks won't know who is walking into their house on the Sunday night.
This is also promoted as a good linking activity for your older Scouts so they can see just how much fun we do have.
Activities include land yachting, water skiing, climbing wall, canoeing, sailing, volleyball, and loads of other not so energetic activities as well.

Your weekend is fully catered by some of the best caterers in town and we assure you will not go home hungry.
You choose your music all weekend and there are movies all night on Friday and Saturday nights.
Chill out in the cafe, kick a hacky sack around or just throw a frisbee to your mates.
So come along and join in all the fun!

Snow Venture

Snow Venture is an annual Venturer event held in the Bogong Rover Chalet on the Bogong High Plains,
11kms from Falls Creek, Victoria. Each year, SA Venturers' head over to the chalet to participate in a wild week of
back-country skiing, snowboarding, snow sculpting, working in groups and partying on.

The cost of this fantastic event is $600 (current at 2003). This covers all accommodation, ski, stock and boot hire,
travel expenses, and all meals whilst at the chalet. This is without a doubt, the best value for money trip to the snow
you can find. Even if you have never skied before, you can come along and join in the fun!

Exciting day ski trips are conducted out to explore summits and historic huts on the Bogong High Plains, one being
‘Wallaces Hut’, the oldest on the Victorian High Plains. Venturers are encouraged to take part in the organising
of the evening activities for all Venturers and leaders to participate in back at the chalet after the days skiing adventures

The chalet facilities are excellent with a large kitchen, an open plan eating area and an ablution block with toilets,
hot showers, and washing machine. The top floor provides dormitory sleeping while there is a drying room below.
Participants work in teams on a duty roster but are free for most of the daylight hours to go ski touring, snowboarding,
make snowmen and generally have fun. You do not have to be an expert skier to join the winter party and have a great time!

Snow Venture is organised and led by an experienced team of leaders that have attended several winter parties
at the chalet and have been trained in the running of the chalet to make Snow Venture not only a wonderful
experience for all, but also to ensure the safety of everyone

Snow Venture can also count for part of your Queen’s Scout Award.

Venturing Green

Venturing Green was started in 1998 by venturer leaders who were horrified at the state of Woodhouse and the fact no scouting personnel were working on our campsite. They started a weekend where Venturers could work, get dirty, wet, muddy, and just have fun.

So far we have cleaned Cox's creek a few times, planted 1800 trees ready for the 2004 Jamboree, moved cows, general cleaning and maintenance. At night we have had quiz nights, Christmas in June, disco's, fires and loads of fun. It is also an opportunity to do 10
hours of service towards your award scheme.
