Implementation & Retraining
Current Scheme
- Undertake 16 of 20 activities - earn 4 diamonds
- Overall minimum hour requirement of 265
Key Proposed Changes
Hours Required
- A minimum hour requirement of 255 – 10 hours less
- May increase to 260 if First Aid 15 hours for recognisable qualification
- Split Environment in to 10 and 20 hours
Venturer Award
- is about 1/3 of the Q/Scout Award
- Complete 7 of the 13 level 1 (participation) to earn Venturer Award
- 4 to be compulsory – Unit Management Course, Initiatives, Ideals and Service; and
3 from Vocations, Outdoor, Expeditions, Expressions, Lifestyle, Environment, Pursuits, Citizenship or First Aid - Completion of Venturer Award would earn Certificate II without extra p/work
- Achievable by average Venturer in 12 to 8 months
- Approvals to be at the Unit level
Queen’s Scout
- Complete all 13 V/A plus 4 at QS level to attain QS Award. This is a total of 17 areas
Leadership
The following points were reiterated:
- Leadership courses, when rewritten, should clearly define why the young person needs to do particular activities despite having previous experience with these.
- VLs to be appropriately trained, as it is increasingly important to understand youth & their needs.
- There is a need for District Leaders to provide support to VLs
