The criteria set out below is a summary of the requirements. The Venturer Scout Passport should be used to
determine the exact conditions required.

This area covers the topics of Citizenship, Environment, First Aid and Service.
All four topics are compulsory.
An active examination of some aspects of community affairs, enabling Venturer Scouts
to see better their involvement in community life.
The badges go on the right arm. See page 10 of the passport or our
Badges page.
It is expected that this award
will require a minimum of 70 hours.

Citizenship
Unit Council approval required A minimum time of 10 hours is expected.
Do any four of the following, each to be of approximately 2.5 hours duration.
- Visit a community institution or organisation, and report to the Unit on how it is
organised and what it does.
Typical examples would be: Local council, police station, local hospital, fire service,
water supply, garbage or sewage disposal.
- Attend a meeting of a Local Council Progress Association or a Court of Law in session
and report to the Unit on the issues covered.
- Prepare and deliver to the Unit an effective five-minute talk on a subject important to the Unit.
- Contact, or visit and report on, a Venturer Scout in another State or overseas and exchange at least
three letters from each person discussing aspects of local community life and
your personal involvement.
- Report on the principles and platforms of at least two political parties.
Describe the electoral procedures and names and backgrounds of local members of Local,
State and Federal Government.
- Contact or visit at least two youth service organisations. Examples are drug and alcohol services,
school welfare, counseling and youth workers.
- Any other type of activity of an equivalent standard to those mentioned above.

Environment
District Venturer Council approval required.
A minimum time of 20 hours is expected.
Become more aware of the natural and man-made environment, and consider the
effects of environmental changes on the quality of life.
Specifically:
Take a leading part in organising, and carrying out a practical environmental project.
The project should be defined with regard to:
- Aim and usefulness of the project.
- Background research required.
- Practical fieldwork, observations and recording proposed.

First Aid
Unit Council approval required.
In South Australia, complete a senior First Aid course. In South Australia these courses are run by the
Red Cross Society or St. Johns Ambulance Association.
This means that in addition to this First Aid badge, you may also wear the
Red Cross or St. Johns badge on your right sleeve. See page 10 and page 106 of
the Venturer Passport.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be given if a St John or Red Cross senior
first aid course certificate (18 hours) has been received and is current.

Service
A minimum time of 30 hours is expected.
An introduction to the needs of the people within the community.
Undertake either of the following two alternatives.
Alternative 1
Unit Council approval required.
Carry out at least 10 hours of service to the Scouting Movement.
A popular service activity for Adelaide Venturers is to spend a weekend at
Woodhouse (Adelaide's major Scouting campsite) undertaking repairs or
clearing weeds and/or planting trees etc.
AND
Carry out one of the following over 20 hours.
District Venturer Council approval required.
- Take a leading role in organising and participating in a significant
community service project.
- Become an active, regular member of a recognised emergency service.
- Assist with the running of a youth organisation (non-Scouting).
OR
Alternative 2
Unit Council approval required.
Carry out at least 10 hours of service to the community.
AND
Carry out one of the following over 20 hours.
District Venturer Council approval required.
Assist with the running of a Joey Scout Mob, Cub Scout Pack or Scout Troop
on a regular basis over a four month period.
Complete the Service form for
the applicable Section OR, do the Youth Instructor's Course.
