26th September 2004, Rymill Conference Centre, Woodhouse
On the 26th of September Venturers from Lones, One Tree Hill, Flagstaff Hill and Belair Venturer Units participated in a Leadership Course. During the day we did many activities including getting to know you games, looked at types of leadership, communication, public speaking, organization, decision making, chairmanship, self management and stress management.
All these things are useful in many areas of life, not just running meetings and planning events. It was run effectively in the way that there was a wide range of activities all done in various different ways. It was a good opportunity for us all and we are glad we got the chance to do it. It was also a good refresher for those who have done courses like this one at School etc.
The course was reduced to one day, as there weren’t enough members to make a full weekend course at the time applications closed. The reduction of the course meant that a lot more information had to be taken by those participating and less free time was had. However as it turned out there was enough to run a weekend. So please encourage any Venturers wishing to do these courses to get their forms in on time so that those planning these courses know numbers early.
All the Venturers and even the course leaders took something away from the day that they will use in future times. It was also a great opportunity to meet other Venturers from other Units and share problems, ideas and thoughts. Many suggestions were made on many topics and it was good to hear other people willing to talk about their experiences.
Also a thank you must go to Michael White and Nicola Capon, who were the course leaders, for relocating to Woodhouse as it was Annual Lones Camp and it gave Venturers from Kangaroo Island the chance to do this course. It can be quite expensive to travel and it is good that the course is flexible enough to be moved to help with the Venturers doing the awards. Kate Ryder, BC, popped in and run a session and then also joined us for lunch.
