VENTURING ON     . . . news from Venturing SA

KATE’S BLURB:

Well, here we are at the end of what we thought was going to be a rather easy year, seeing we weren’t preoccupied with the Jamboree… So what happened? I don’t think my feet have touched the ground and I don’t really know where the year has gone! But – one thing I do know is that I have had a fantastic year working with fantastic people in the Venturer Section and also working with other sections as well. We have had a lot of fun as well and after all – isn’t that one of our aims??? So, we have achieved some goals as well. We have this year presented 19 Queen’s Scouts to the Governor. We have enjoyed a wonderful dinner in their honour. We have taken training to the country Unit, we have seen the introduction of the new and updated Venturer Record Book, we have run successful Branch State events and we have implemented some new guidelines as well. As a section, we haven’t cancelled any of our courses, we have run a successful Venturer Leaders Conference and we have gained a lot of new Leaders. Welcome to all those new Leaders who have either joined as new Leaders or have seen the light and come to us from other sections. Well done! You will enjoy working with our section and trust me – things won’t happen over night, but they will happen!!!!
This year concludes my three-year stint as Branch Commissioner and I have been approached to carry on for another 3 years. And carry on I will! After much deliberation and consultation – I have decided to continue as Branch Commissioner and hope that we can have as much fun, if not more – for the next 36 months. It doesn’t sound much when you break it down into months really. My Branch team is growing and these new people are taking on specific roles, which will only enhance Venturing. There are more roles to be filled as well. One of my goals for next year is to delegate more jobs and to take a step back and become more of a team manager. My work situation has changed and I won’t be able to take on as many duties as I have in the past. So watch out if you get a tap on the shoulder when I am around, ‘cause I might just be poaching you to join our happy team. Or on the other hand I might just be saying “Hey!”
SuperSplash is just around the corner and I reckon it will be the best ever. We have some new initiatives and perhaps some new activities – but we hope that you all make an effort to come along and join in the fun and frivolity and chill out and have a great time.
Our next Venturer Leaders Gathering is on 25 – 27 February 2005 and this will be at Armstrong, out at Blanchetown. A theme will be announced by mail out early next year – but please, please try to come along – we do learn stuff relevant to the section, we do have fun and we do meet great friends who will last a lifetime. I really hope to see you there.
Anyway, enough from me now, I have SuperSplash stuff to do and a roast to cook. See you all around the place somewhere and keep smiling.
Yours in Venturing

Kate Ryder
