Scouting Statewide May 2005
VENTURING ON . . . news from Venturing SA
THE BIG ANNOUNCENMENT:
The Weekend at the Scrub AKA the Venturer Leaders Gathering for 2005 has been booked and is on the weekend of the 23 – 25th June and will be held at the lovely surroundings of Douglas Scrub down there at McLaren Vale. Somewhere you will be able to see
the flyer which gives you some more details on what we will be doing (which is still flexible because some things may change by then) For those who have been to one of these before, please tell those who haven’t been that if they don’t come, well then I will rip their ruddy arms off, as
Aunty Jack once said. You know, Aunty Jack scared me so much with that comment I just had to watch her every week. Anyway, gosh, I just went off on a big tangent then that probably didn’t make sense to anyone but a select few!!! So, the moral to the tangent is: come along, have a good
weekend, meet new friends, exchange ideas, exchange phone numbers, have good food and above all challenge those boundaries that so often keep us in our little comfort zones. Come On! Why not??? It isn’t until you push those boundaries that you realize what your potential is or as a minimum,
what enjoyment you get from trying new things. So I hope to see you down there at Douglas Scrub.
Another Big Announcement: We have our very first recipient of the Certificate II in Leadership Support here in South Australia. This amazing young person is Renee McKie. Congratulation to you Renee – not only have you achieved this we need to congratulate you on also receiving your Queen’s Scout Award as well. Well done and I am sure that I say that on behalf of everyone.
Talking about Queen’s Scout Awards, so far we have 3 approved with three in the pipeline. The format of this years Queen’s Scout Dinner will be changed to be held after the presentations of the awards at Government House and will take the format of a buffet lunch. It will be a fairly informal function but will still include the special sessions that we always have had. It will be held at a venue close to town. I will be advising each of the award recipients closer to the time.
Thanks for the support I have been receiving lately and thanks to those who have put their hands up to run events, do things for me and maybe just being there on the end of an email at all times of the day. It is a bugger when your work life affects your Scout life, but sometimes when you take
a step back; it is refreshing to see people taking a step forward to help out. You are little rays of sunshine all of you who are doing those extra bits for me and the section and I know that it is not only me who appreciates it: it is all those smiling faces out there in the Units.
So keep smiling, dream a little dream and I hope to see you in the very near future.
Yours in Venturing
Kate Ryder - Branch Commissioner Venturer Scouts.
