Kate’s Blurb - April 2005

Scouting Statewide April 2005

VENTURING ON     . . . news from Venturing SA

So, here we are again – Sunday night, about 10pm, the ironing is done and so are my nails and I am sitting in front of this and thinking about what to write about for the Statewide blurb. Inspiration comes from amazing places sometimes and at the most unexpected times. I got inspiration at the last Branch Venturer Council meeting of all places! Fancy that? So, there we were at BVC, doing the agenda thing and one goal that I wanted to achieve at that meeting was to have someone volunteer for the Venturer Section Promotion person (see promotions section - ed). I was dreading the stone cold silence that sometimes happens when you ask for a volunteer for something but funnily enough – as soon as I asked for someone to help out with this role, a hand went up and the words were heard “ I will do that”! Well, I was a little lost for words – can you believe that??? You could have heard the silence from Mt Lofty. This voice came as a gift from the good place and it came from our new Venturer Leader for Kintaro Venturers, Kylie Moore. Kylie has not only taken on VL, getting a new Unit up and running, she also is working as one of the new field officers for HQ and also gets in there with any Venturer activity, especially helping out with the VenSAT (Venturer Section Activity Team, if you didn’t know what that little acronym means) So I accepted her offer and now the Venturer Section has a promotion person who will be going to lots of activities, taking happy snaps and then writing something for our very special page in Statewide. Kylie will also be giving helpful hints each month for you as Venturer Leaders to use in your Units. I would like to welcome Kylie on board and thanks Kylie for filling this very important role. So keep your eyes peeled for some inspiration from Kylie herself, next month and “keep up the great work, Kylie”.

AdVenture Expo: This was another successful event put together by Bob Ellis and a band of merry people who got together heaps of activities for the Venturers to do while they were walking around the grounds of the Glenelg Activity Centre. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and as I was wandering around, I could hear the Venturers taking in all the opportunities that were shown to them. It was a great night and I thank Bob for doing this again in 2005.

Venturer Leaders Weekend: Well the date is just about to be set, just waiting on Woodhouse to let us know whether we are successful in getting the Old House for this activity. I will know in the next week, but if not, we will be looking around for another great venue. Things are coming together for this weekend and I will be talking to some people to come along as guest speakers, hopefully to speak about things that affect us at the grass roots level. We will be making boomerangs and do some training sessions and probably having a bit of fun as well. As soon as I hear about the date, I will let you know and hopefully I will be inundated with Standard Application Forms!!!

And now I reckon it is time to bid you farewell for this blurb and stay tuned for some new stuff on our page next month.

So stay safe, stay happy and keep smiling.........
Yours in Venturing,
Kate Ryder - Branch Commissioner Venturer Scouts.
