From Scouting Statewide
September 2001
Initiative Activities are great fun and full of challenges.
Ten intrepid Venturers from Angle Vale and Gawler Venturer Units set out
on the latest Initiative Activity.
After weighing their packs and themselves and having their rucksacks
checked against a minimum gear list necessary for an overnight hike they
began the 8 km hike. Soon they had their first aid kits checked against a
minimum kit list and had to manoeuvre a one handled, alarmed milk churn
through an obstacle course!
Other incidents included: a realistic first aid situation, an individual
map and compass assessment on top of a hill, a photograph trail from which
Venturers made a map, building a makeshift bridge over a running stream...
After cooking tea on their Trangias the night was spent completing several
team building activities great ideas for their Units to try.
[We send out sample Initiative Activity Assessment sheets so you know on what will be assessed.]
