In this modern age, we need to move with the times. We have recently had problems ensuring all of the Venturers get the information for activity nights. I thought I knew the answer… I suggested a ring-around list, the Venturers looked at me like I had horns or something. “What is a ring-around list?” they asked, so I tried to explain, a list where each person rings the next person on the list, straight after they have been contacted, and the last person contacts the first, a great way to get in contact with everyone I assured them. They were not convinced, so instead we create an email-mailing list, or an “E-Group” to those in the know. It works brilliantly, information is clear, precise and so long as you have regular email access is quickly received.
There are a few problems with this, some people just don’t have email access, or don’t wish to. They then miss out on all important information, then quite often one person (often the leader) is left to ring around the left over Venturers to find out what’s happening, or to pass on the information. That is not to stay don’t use the internet, I now believe that it is one of the most efficient means of passing on information, but maybe a “buddy” system can be developed. Linking one person without email access to one person with, they have the joint responsibility of passing on information to each other, and letting each other know what is happening. This cuts down the time and cost of one person making last minute phone calls to everyone, and hopefully solves the problem of those who do not use email.
For those in your Unit that are internet savvy, there are multitudes of websites, and masses of information that can be gleaned. Encourage your Venturers to use it, if they access the Venturer Section Website they can get up to date information of Queen’s Scout Award, how and where to find examiners, unit locations, and all important Venture Section contacts. The forum is a great place for exchange of ideas, putting your views and feedback about events across, and reaching out for information.
So for Venturers and Leaders log onto the Venturer Section Website and use this fantastic resource, join the forum and get involved in the discussion and Leaders join our E-Group and get all the information first.
