Here’s a really good 2-3 day hike for Venturers in the Flinders Ranges just 8km from Quorn.
You can choose to hike only on tracks [The Heysen Trail meanders through the Conservation Park]
or be more adventurous and try out your cross country navigation.
We started at the parking area and followed the walking trail up to ‘The Stern’ - great views in all directions!
Two kilometres along the ridge past ‘The Dutchman’ saw us negotiate a steep but easily ‘doable’ climb down to the
track.
There are many possible camping spots especially near some of the springs.
Essentials:- some previous bushwalking experience - adequate gear and clothes for exposed area bushwalking, 1:50
000 Port Augusta map - ‘The Dutchmans Stern Bush Walk’ information sheet available at the start of the hike with
main trail information, plants, animals, features... very useful!
The park is administered from Mambray Creek.
